Living Room Design

Living Room design: our approach

Your living room sets the design direction for your home so we ensure it reflects your personal style while being functional and inviting.  We elevate your living room using several key design devices.

Statement Lighting

Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the mood of our projects.  A statement pendant such as this striking brass chandelier both illuminates the room and serves as a focal point.  In an interview with Vogue Living, Brendan emphasized the role of lighting in creating mood and ambiance, noting “the right lighting brings a room to life, drawing attention to the textures, colours and shapes within it.”

Layered textures

By layering different finishes and textures we add warmth and character to your living room.  It could be a silk rug paired with a cut velvet sofa, a combination that enhances comfort while visually enriching your space.  We incorporate varied materials to fit your personal expression, the example here of agate stones and pressed brass to add depth and definition.   Brendan  shared with Belle Magazine that textures are not just visual but tactile, “creating spaces that invite you to touch, feel, and relax”.

Personalised Artwork

We incorporate artwork that reflect your style to create a unique atmosphere.  Whether it’s a large canvas or a collection of smaller pieces, art can add colour and personality to your living room.  If you’re an experienced collector we enjoy finding the perfect locations for those treasures; or we can curate a collection of new works that resonate with you.  According to Art Edit, Brendan believes that “art should reflect the essence of those who live in the space, telling a story that is both personal and impactful”.

Colour

Whether you prefer a neutral palette or bold hues, colour can dramatically change the perception of space.  Our early briefing sessions are an opportunity to assess your appetite for a  monochromatic scheme or more dramatic exploration of colour.  In Design Anthology, Brendan suggests “colour can transform a room, creating an environment that suits both individual personalities and the overall aesthetic of the home”.

INDOOR / OUTDOOR CONNECTION

Your living room can benefit greatly from the beauty of the outdoors.  Large windows or doors that open to a terrace or garden create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living.  We often emphasise this connection using interior materials that complement the exterior, or introduce an intentional contrast that still evokes a sense of calm and serenity within.

Functional Furniture Layout

Arranging furniture thoughtfully enhances both the functionality and flow of a living room.  Our designs often centre around comfortable social layouts, with seating arranged to encourage conversation.  In the Australian Financial Review, Wong explained the importance of “creating spaces where movement feels natural and people are drawn to gather.”

CUSTOM SOLUTIONS

Custom solutions can make your living room truly one-of-a-kind.  We frequently incorporate bespoke joinery which adds a level of exclusivity.  In an interview with Metropolitan Home, Brendan discusses working closely with artisans to create unique solutions that serve a purpose beyond aesthetics.  “Custom furniture brings a personal narrative into the home” he says, and also adds value and meaning to the space.
